HISTORIC GETTYSBURG TOUR #9799
April 29-30

Saturday, April 29
Upon arrival to Gettysburg we'll stop at the Visitors Center where you can view the film "A New Birth of Freedom". In the Gettysburg Address, given just a few short months after the epic Battle of Gettysburg, President Abraham Lincoln called for "a new birth of freedom." Following the film view the Cyclorama—a breathtaking canvas that measures 377 feet in circumference and 42 feet high. Longer than a football field and as tall as a four-story
structure, the Gettysburg Cyclorama oil painting immerses visitors in the fury of Pickett's Charge during the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Lunch is on your own this afternoon before departing for our guided Battlefield Tour. Our guide will talk about the three day battle and answer our questions. Along the way, you'll get off the bus several times to experience this hallowed ground.

Our lodging for tonight is the Days Inn Gettysburg. After check-in freshen up and get ready for the evening's events. Begin with Confederate Hospital Walk - a 90 minute walk as we journey into the heart of Gettysburg to hear gruesome tales of the buildings that the Union and Confederate armies used as field hospitals and of the soldiers that still remain. Your story teller will describe in detail the gory details of Civil War hospitals, including amputations.  End your journey at the Farnsworth House, which was used as a makeshift hospital during and after the battle.

A buffet dinner is included at the Historic Farnsworth House this evening. The specialty dish, Game Pie, is offered as a special Civil war treat to groups. It's made with turkey, duck, & pheasant blended with a long grain & wild rice, red currant jelly, mushrooms, bacon lardoons and special spices in a rich sauce then topped with a golden flaky crust. Other entrees you will find are Baked Ham w/Brown Sugared Pineapple,
Pennsylvania Dutch Chicken Pot Pie, Oven Roasted Herb Chicken, and Fried New England Cod Fish.

Sunday, April 30
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel then spend the day visiting Gettysburg on your own. We'll schedule two drop off points in order to give you the best options to spend your time—one at the Visitors Center, the other at Gettysburg Heritage Center. Departing at 5pm for return, we'll make a meal stop en route—on your own.
